Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy has been appointed as the new President of the Telangana unit of the BJP. However, political analysts believe that this move is unlikely to benefit the party in the upcoming state elections. The decision to remove incumbent Bandi Sanjay just a few months before the elections is seen as an attempt to appease MLAs Eatala Rajender, Raghunandan Rao, and others who were considering switching loyalties to the Congress party. Bandi Sanjay is regarded as a leader who has contributed significantly to the party’s growth over the past three years. He played a key role in strengthening the party and led them to victory in two Assembly by-elections, replacing Congress as the main opposition party.
Analyst Palwai Raghavendra Reddy emphasized that Bandi Sanjay’s leadership was instrumental in building momentum for the BJP in Telangana. He also noted that previous state BJP presidents were unable to generate the same level of momentum. G. Kishan Reddy, who has previously served as BJP President of united Andhra Pradesh and as Telangana unit chief, has now been appointed as the new President.
The BJP’s fortunes improved in 2019 when they won four Lok Sabha seats, with Kishan Reddy winning from the Secunderabad constituency and becoming a minister at the Centre. Bandi Sanjay’s rise to prominence came after winning a Lok Sabha seat and subsequently being appointed as party President. With his aggressive style and strong Hindutva support, he helped build the BJP in Telangana. The party’s success continued with victories in the Dubbaka Assembly by-election and an impressive performance in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.
The central leadership of the BJP saw an opportunity to make significant gains in Telangana and started working towards capturing power in the state. When Eatala Rajender, who was dropped from the Cabinet by Chief Minister KCR, resigned from the BRS and joined the BJP, it was seen as a boost for the party. The BJP also gained another Congress MLA, Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, who joined their ranks. However, their attempt to win the Munugode seat was unsuccessful as the BRS retained it.
In the midst of these political developments, Bandi Sanjay shared a philosophical tweet stating that some chapters in our lives have to close without closure.
