Hyderabad: After more than six years since the foundation was laid, the Amberpet flyover in Hyderabad will soon be open to traffic. The flyover is 1.625 kilometers long and has faced many challenges, especially with land acquisition. About 300 properties had to be acquired for the project. The flyover will help ease traffic on the important road that connects the city center to the eastern side of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Uppal.

The flyover was built at a cost of Rs 130 crore and is expected to be opened within a month. According to an official, the flyover is almost complete, and only a few minor issues remain. These should be resolved in the coming days, and the flyover will likely be ready for traffic by the end of this month.

The foundation stone for the flyover was laid in 2018 by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari. However, due to technical issues and the COVID-19 pandemic, the construction only started in 2021. Once the work began, traffic on this busy road was severely disrupted. Many RTC buses traveling towards Uppal, Nalgonda, and Warangal had to take alternate, longer routes through the city. Some buses even had to use the ORR to reach their destinations.

The total cost of the flyover project is about Rs 450 crore. Of this, more than Rs 300 crore has been spent on land acquisition. In 2018, the Union Ministry provided Rs 76.33 crore for the project. Officials from the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) are working hard to clear the final obstacles so that the flyover can be opened to the public as soon as possible.
