The Telangana State government has stopped all irrigation-related works that were sanctioned before the elections. These works were approved by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government. Sanctions were given for various projects in different constituencies across Telangana a few days before the assembly elections. The Chief Minister also sanctioned large-scale works from the Special Fund for Development and Welfare Programs – SDF.

After the elections, the Congress party came into power and decided to halt the projects that were approved by the previous government. This decision was made due to financial constraints. The Planning Department has instructed the District Collectors to provide details of the sanctioned works, including their current status, expenditure incurred, and expenditure still required.

Uttam Kumar Reddy, an official, ordered all pre-election tenders to be stopped. Ongoing and pending works must be halted immediately. The government will conduct a comprehensive review to determine the next steps based on both requirements and financial resources.

Recently, State Ministers had a meeting with officials to discuss irrigation projects. They expressed dissatisfaction with the previous government’s policies and the behavior of the officials. It was alleged that public money was misused by inflating project estimates. The Minister has ordered the immediate stoppage of tenders and assigned works in the irrigation department. They have also asked for a report on the required expenditure for projects that can be completed within two years.
