Madhira: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu has made an important announcement regarding housing in his constituency. He stated that eligible beneficiaries will soon be selected for 3,500 Indiramma houses in every constituency. After this selection, a ‘Bhumi Puja’ (a traditional ground-breaking ceremony) will be performed to kickstart the construction.
On Wednesday, Bhatti Vikramarka visited Madhira in the Khammam district after completing the third and final phase of a loan waiver program for farmers who had borrowed up to Rs 2 lakh. During his visit, he addressed a gathering at Jamalapuram in the Madhira constituency.
The Deputy Chief Minister criticized those who were spreading false information about the Rs 2 lakh loan waiver. He pointed out that the previous government had failed to implement the loan waiver in five years, yet they were now criticizing the Congress government, which had fulfilled its election promise in the very first year after coming into power.
Bhatti Vikramarka explained that farmers who had taken loans exceeding Rs 2 lakh would need to repay the amount above Rs 2 lakh and then inform the agriculture department. After doing so, the Rs 2 lakh portion of their loan would also be waived. He emphasized that the Congress government had successfully implemented the Rs 2 lakh loan waiver in one go, which was something no one in the country had expected.
He further elaborated that the Government Order (GO) on the loan waiver was executed in three phases from July 17 to August 15. Contrasting this with the previous BRS government, he pointed out that they had repaid only Rs 1 lakh of farmers’ loans in four installments between 2014 and 2018, which was barely enough to cover the interest. This approach prevented banks from issuing fresh loans to farmers. Bhatti Vikramarka also noted that the BRS government had implemented a loan waiver for farmers in a disorganized manner just before the elections when they returned to power for a second term.
