Hyderabad-based NGO Helping Hand Foundation (HHF) has launched an AI-powered health application to improve healthcare in urban slums. The initiative, developed in collaboration with U.S.-based start-up MIDOC, aims to enhance both preventive and curative healthcare management. The app is being introduced in 12 community health centres operated by HHF.

As part of a pilot programme, the application has been deployed in five centres located in Rajendra Nagar, Shaheen Nagar, Ghouse Nagar, and Hasan Nagar. Before its launch, doctors at these centres received extensive training to ensure smooth implementation.

The AI-powered tool monitors key health metrics and provides real-time alerts for any abnormalities. This feature helps in detecting health issues early, allowing timely medical intervention. One of the app’s most important features is a centralised health profile, which stores medical records for all family members in one place. This ensures easy updates and structured healthcare tracking.

    AI-Driven Healthcare Support

The app uses AI to provide personalised preventive healthcare insights based on a patient’s medical history. For doctors, it acts as a virtual assistant, automating prescription generation from patient-doctor conversations. This reduces manual paperwork and summarises lengthy medical reports, helping doctors make quicker decisions.

Mujtaba Hasan Askari from HHF highlighted another crucial feature—an AI-driven follow-up system. The app sends automated alerts to remind patients about their medication schedules, upcoming doctor appointments, and health check-ups. Additionally, it offers real-time AI chat support, telemedicine consultations, and virtual follow-ups, making healthcare more accessible for underserved communities.

    Empowering Patients and Healthcare Providers

For patients, the app simplifies medical record management by allowing easy uploads and smart categorisation of prescriptions and lab results. It also enables seamless integration with specialists and healthcare facilities, ensuring targeted care. The app’s interactive visual analytics provide an AI-powered health overview, helping families track their health progress.

“Bringing AI into primary healthcare will improve the patient experience and build trust while also helping our doctors serve patients more effectively,” said Mr. Askari.

With HHF’s centres serving over 5.56 lakh patients in 2024, this AI-powered initiative is a significant step toward improving healthcare access and efficiency in Hyderabad’s urban slums.
