The Agriculture Minister, Tummala Nageswara Rao, has instructed officials to speed up the works of the Sita Rama Lift Irrigation project and complete them by May end. This project aims to lift water from the river Godavari to irrigate lands in erstwhile Khammam. During a high-level review meeting on irrigation projects, Tummala reviewed the cause of the project’s delay. He directed officials to take up the project-related works urgently. The government has already spent Rs 7,500 crore on this project, and an additional amount of Rs 70 crore is needed to complete the remaining works.

Once completed, the project will provide water supply to Vyra project, Lanka Sagar, NSP, covering a total area of 1.6 lakh acres in erstwhile Khammam. The Minister also informed Uttam Kumar about a recent review meeting held in the Kothagudem district, where he raised concerns about the delay in tunnel works and other project-related issues such as land acquisition and Genco power house diversion.
