    Ukrainian troops are advancing towards the city of Bakhmut, but the situation in the city center is complicated, according to Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar. Russian forces have fallen back north of Bakhmut ahead of Ukraine’s promised counteroffensive. Both Ukrainian and Russian officials say pro-Kyiv forces are pushing back after months of fighting that left much of the city in ruins.
