The Privileges Committee of Lok Sabha unanimously decided to remove the suspension of Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury from the lower house. This resolution was passed after Chowdhury expressed regret for certain remarks he made in the House that led to his suspension on August 11. During the Committee meeting, Chowdhury clarified that he never intended to hurt anyone’s feelings and apologized for his comments.
A member of the Committee stated that they have adopted a resolution to revoke Chowdhury’s suspension and will send it to the Speaker as soon as possible.
Chowdhury was suspended from the Lok Sabha by Speaker Om Birla for his “unruly conduct” on the last day of the monsoon session. The Privileges Committee was tasked with investigating his behavior and providing a report. During their meeting on August 18, some members felt that Chowdhury had already been punished by the Lok Sabha and there was no need for further examination by a parliamentary panel. However, to ensure fairness, the Committee requested Chowdhury to appear before them on Wednesday.
