Good Rainfall Ensures Adequate Drinking Water for Hyderabad
Hyderabad is expected to have enough drinking water this summer due to good rainfall. Officials from the Hyderabad Water Board say that water levels in major reservoirs, including Osmansagar and Himayatsagar, are satisfactory. The board is planning to use the available water carefully to meet the city’s drinking water needs.
Currently, Hyderabad gets its drinking water from several reservoirs, including Osman Sagar, Himayat Sagar, Singur, Manjeera, and Nagarjuna Sagar. Officials have observed a slight increase in water levels in these reservoirs compared to last year.
According to recent data, the water level in Osman Sagar is 1,788.150 feet, slightly higher than last February’s 1,786.000 feet. Similarly, Himayat Sagar has risen to 1,761.650 feet from 1,760.70 feet last year. Other reservoirs have also seen small increases. The Manjeera reservoir’s level has gone up from 1,648.700 feet last year to 1,651.000 feet now. The Sripada Yellampalli Project has risen to 478.862 feet from 474.137 feet, while Nagarjuna Sagar is currently at 474.137 feet.
Officials credit the rise in water levels to the good rainfall received during last monsoon. Currently, Hyderabad is receiving 581.35 million gallons per day (MGD) of drinking water. If needed, arrangements will be made to pump water from dead storage, just like last year.
A senior official from HMWSSB assured that the water supply in Hyderabad will continue throughout the summer without any reduction. The water board is also taking necessary steps to ensure that the city’s drinking water demand is met efficiently.
