Gadwal: On Thursday, Additional District Collector Narasing Rao asked officials to run big campaigns in villages to tell people about the importance of breastfeeding. He had a meeting in his office with the District Welfare Department and other officials to plan activities for Breastfeeding Week.
In the meeting, the Additional Collector stressed the need to follow the government’s schedule for Breastfeeding Week activities in the district. He suggested that the Health Department and ICDS departments should work together to organize daily programs at the mandal level to explain why breastfeeding is important.
The officials were told to take full responsibility to promote breastfeeding in the district. He said that whether a child is born naturally or through cesarean section, breastfeeding should start within an hour of birth. He mentioned the benefits of colostrum, which helps in the child’s growth and boosts immunity, and stressed the need to inform pregnant women about this.
He also talked about some mothers choosing formula milk because of work, health, or other reasons. He emphasized the need to raise awareness about the necessity of breastfeeding among these mothers. He suggested creating audio and video clips to promote breastfeeding widely in rural areas.
During the event, pamphlets on the importance of breastfeeding were released with the help of the concerned officials.
The program was attended by District Welfare Officer Sudharani, District Medical and Health Officer Dr. Siddappa, District Coordinator Kalyan, CDPOs, supervisors, and others.
