In New Delhi, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha strongly criticized the Government Of National Capital Territory Of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 proposed by the BJP-led government. Chadha called it undemocratic and illegal, stating that it was an attack on the people of Delhi and a threat to the federal system. He also highlighted that the bill contradicted the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of the elected government of Delhi.

Chadha expressed concern that the BJP’s message to the public was that a non-BJP government would be unable to function smoothly, despite the massive mandate given to Arvind Kejriwal’s government by the people of Delhi. He warned that this move could set a dangerous precedent for destabilizing non-BJP state governments in the future, potentially undermining democratic principles and the Indian constitution.

The AAP MP emphasized that the BJP’s targeting of the Delhi government was driven by their failure to form a government in Delhi for the past 25 years. With multiple non-BJP chief ministers being elected by the people of Delhi, the BJP has become politically irrelevant in the region. Chadha urged all MPs who value the constitution and democracy to vote against this ordinance in both houses of parliament.
