Hyderabad / New Delhi: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, as part of the Congress election campaign for the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls, announced two key promises for Delhi voters. He pledged to provide LPG cylinders at Rs 500 and 300 units of free electricity. Reddy expressed confidence that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would face a similar defeat in Delhi as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) did in Telangana, claiming Congress was poised to replicate its success.

During a press conference in Delhi to launch the ‘Mehngai Mukt Yojana,’ Reddy linked the AAP and BRS to the Delhi liquor policy scam, referring to them as “partners” in the alleged corruption. He stated, “We defeated the partner in the liquor scam in Telangana, and now we are here to defeat the main partner in Delhi.” When asked about his plans to campaign for the Delhi polls, he reaffirmed his commitment.

Reddy highlighted that the welfare guarantees implemented in Telangana under Congress could also be introduced in Delhi if corruption is curbed. He explained, “If corruption is controlled, there will be enough resources to fund welfare schemes. Under KCR’s rule, Telangana was looted, but now those funds are being properly used for the people’s welfare.”

The Chief Minister emphasized Congress’s ability to handle funds more effectively, citing former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit’s achievements as an example. He contrasted this with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, claiming they failed to address key issues in Delhi.

Reddy also criticized the Union Government for its inaction on Delhi’s problems, particularly worsening air quality. He argued that the central government should allocate a special budget for the National Capital Region, highlighting its responsibilities. Taking a jab at the BJP, he remarked that while the Centre could send missions to the moon, it had failed to resolve Delhi’s pollution crisis, even after three terms in power. He added that this failure not only made life difficult for Delhi residents but also deterred visitors to the capital.

The Telangana CM accused Modi of prioritizing the interests of major defaulters over public welfare, stating, “Modi has written off Rs 16 lakh crore for big defaulters. This money could have been better used for welfare programs. The media never questions Modi about this, while common people suffer due to the power struggle between Modi and Kejriwal.”

Reddy promised Delhi voters that Congress would ensure proper funding for the city’s development through its Lok Sabha MPs. He said, “Under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, Congress will form a pressure group in Parliament to secure funds for Delhi. Kejriwal lacks the numbers in Parliament to create the same level of influence.”
