On Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a speech from the Red Fort to talk about his government’s achievements. However, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which rules Delhi, criticized his address and called it a farewell speech because the Lok Sabha elections will be held next year.
Saurabh Bhardwaj, a Delhi minister and AAP leader, said that the Prime Minister’s speech seemed like his farewell speech. He claimed that there is nothing to count in terms of the Prime Minister’s ten years of work. Bhardwaj mentioned that poverty and unemployment have increased, and there is now tension in the country instead of peace.
Another Delhi minister, Atishi, also criticized PM Modi for his speech. She mentioned that they have heard the Prime Minister’s speech but have also seen his work for ten years. Atishi pointed out incidents in Manipur and Haryana where there is violence between different communities. She also highlighted the poor condition of classrooms and instances where people have to travel long distances for medical treatment.
According to Atishi, there is no need to listen to the Prime Minister’s speech to understand his track record of ten years. She believes that his work shows that he hasn’t accomplished much.
