Hyderabad: The Congress party has once again delayed its cabinet expansion in Telangana, which was originally planned for April 3. Internal disagreements and dissatisfaction among party members have caused the postponement.

Top Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, recently held discussions with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and other senior leaders like PCC president Mahesh Goud. They had prepared a list of new ministers for the cabinet, aiming to balance caste and regional representation. However, many party members, especially those who joined Congress from the BRS after the recent election win, are unhappy because they were not included.

To deal with the growing discontent, the party leadership has decided to speak directly with unhappy leaders before finalizing the list of new ministers. The recent approval of important bills, such as one offering 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) and another for dividing Scheduled Caste (SC) categories, has increased pressure on the party to ensure fair representation in the cabinet.

Leaders from districts like Nizamabad, Adilabad, Rangareddy, and Hyderabad are also demanding more cabinet seats for their regions. Currently, the cabinet has 12 members, including Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Among them, four are from the Reddy community, two each from BC and SC groups, and one each from the Brahmin, Kamma, Velama, and ST communities.

There are still six vacant spots in the cabinet. Leaders from Nalgonda, Warangal, and Mahabubnagar are actively pushing for these positions. The Congress party had earlier planned to appoint two more BCs, one ST (from the Lambada community), one SC (from the Madiga community), one more Reddy, and one leader from the minority community. However, due to the ongoing internal issues, the final decision is now expected to take more time.
