Hyderabad: Abid Rasool Khan, the former Chairman of the Minorities Commission for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, has urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to cancel the government-funded Iftar event, which costs Rs 70 crore. Instead, he suggested that the money be used for educational programs to help the Muslim community.

In a letter to the Chief Minister on Friday, Khan supported a resolution passed on March 16 by prominent citizens and NGOs working for minority welfare. He criticized the high spending on the Iftar event, saying that it has no real religious significance and does not help society.

Khan urged the Chief Minister to stop this large-scale public spending on the event. He suggested that the Rs 70 crore could be used to set up a medical and pharmacy college for Muslims or fund other educational programs. He believed such an initiative would have a long-term positive impact and be remembered for generations.
