The Telangana government is working to improve healthcare services and medical facilities in the state. In the 2025-26 budget, ₹12,393 crore has been allocated to the Health, Medical, and Family Welfare Department. This is an 8% increase from last year. The focus is on critical care, medical education, and emergency response services.
Free Dialysis Services Expanded
To help people suffering from chronic kidney diseases, the government has expanded free dialysis services to 102 centres. This benefits over one lakh patients and has saved families around ₹948 crore in healthcare costs. Additionally, 95 more dialysis centres have been approved to make treatment more accessible across the state.
Better Emergency Medical Services
To improve emergency healthcare, the government has added 136 new ambulances in areas where emergency services were previously lacking. This will help ensure that people in rural areas get quick medical help in critical situations.
More Opportunities in Medical Education
To meet the growing demand for medical professionals, the government has introduced 400 new MBBS seats in newly established medical colleges. Additionally, 16 new nursing colleges and 28 allied health sciences colleges have been approved. This will create opportunities for 2,640 more students each year to pursue careers in the medical field.
Osmania General Hospital to be Modernized
The government has also decided to build a modern facility for Osmania General Hospital (OGH) at a cost of ₹2,700 crore. The new hospital will be constructed on a 27-acre site, improving healthcare services while preserving the historic institution’s legacy.
Support for Aarogyasri and National Health Mission
Since December 2023, the state government has spent ₹1,215 crore under the Aarogyasri scheme, a 50% increase from previous funding. This helps ensure that 2.84 crore people continue to receive medical care. The government is also ensuring the timely release of its share for the National Health Mission (NHM) to receive maximum funding from the central government.
With these initiatives, Telangana is making significant progress in strengthening its healthcare system. These efforts aim to improve medical services, increase accessibility, and provide better healthcare for all citizens.
