Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a meeting with an all-party delegation to discuss increasing reservations for Backward Classes (BC) in Telangana.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister stated that representatives from the Congress, BRS, BJP, AIMIM, and CPI parties want to meet and talk about raising the BC quota to 42 per cent. They also wish to discuss the bills passed by the Telangana Assembly regarding this matter.
The Chief Minister mentioned that the Telangana government recently conducted a Door-to-Door Household Socio, Educational, Economic, Employment, Political, and Caste (SEEEPC) Survey. This survey was based on a resolution passed by the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
In his letter, Revanth Reddy explained the process of adopting two bills to implement the 42 per cent BC reservation. The first bill, “The Telangana Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes (Reservation of Seats in Education Institutions and of Appointments or Posts in the Services under State Bill, 2025),” aims to increase reservations for BCs in education and government jobs from 29 per cent to 42 per cent.
The second bill, “The Telangana Backward Classes (Reservation of Seats in Rural and Urban Local Bodies Bill, 2025),” seeks to raise BC reservations in local governing bodies to 42 per cent. Both bills have been passed by the Telangana Assembly.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government needs the support of the central government to implement these changes. He requested the Prime Minister to schedule a meeting with the all-party delegation to discuss the issue further.
