BJP and MIM Leaders Raise Concerns in Telangana Assembly

In the Telangana Assembly on Monday, members of the BJP and the AIMIM raised concerns about their rights as legislators. BJP members accused the government of unfairly distributing funds, while AIMIM leaders were frustrated over delays in receiving the Assembly agenda.

BJP MLA Paidi Rakesh Reddy highlighted the issue of poverty in Northern Telangana. He alleged that while the Kodangal constituency received Rs 1,000 crore, his Armoor constituency was given only Rs 90 lakh. “The Congress leaders ask me what I have brought for my constituency, but I ask them what the Congress government has given to us,” he said. He also urged the government to develop an airport in Jakranpally, Nizamabad, to boost the region’s growth.

Another BJP MLA, Katepally Venkataramana Reddy, questioned the role of in-charge ministers in constituencies. He claimed that these ministers were favoring losing candidates over elected MLAs. He also mentioned that he had submitted 84 RTI queries but had received responses to only eight. “If you don’t respect MLAs, it will be your own insult,” he warned.

AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi expressed frustration over his question being postponed during the session. He pointed out that, despite fasting for Ramadan, AIMIM members came prepared for discussions, only to have their questions marked as “deemed to have been answered.” He criticized the delay in receiving the Assembly agenda, which was previously provided at 3 AM but is now withheld until the last moment before the session begins. Additionally, he questioned why officials only provided reply papers if the Speaker read the question aloud. Frustrated, he staged a walkout in protest.

In response, the Speaker explained that the question hour was initially set for one hour but was extended to one and a half hours due to members’ active participation. He assured Akbaruddin Owaisi that his question would be addressed in the next session.
