The State Government is working to get environmental clearances from the Union Government for the Musi Rejuvenation Project. Since the project is divided into multiple parts and covers over 50 km of the Musi River in the city, it requires several approvals from the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC).

Officials from the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department mentioned that getting these clearances is a major challenge. Each section of the project needs a separate approval to follow environmental rules. These approvals are necessary for constructing large structures along the river, managing the river water for household use, and maintaining water quality as per government standards.

The government has finalized detailed project reports for different sections, and some of them have already been sent to the ministry for review. The MA&UD department is in regular contact with MoEFCC officials to clarify any concerns and speed up the approval process.

Once all the necessary approvals are received, the project work will move forward quickly. However, the government has not set a deadline for obtaining clearances or completing the project, as the reports are still being finalized.

Officials also stated that the government will decide on funding only after getting all environmental approvals. It has already started discussions with the World Bank for financial support. Other financial institutions have also been approached, but no concrete commitments have been made so far.
