RTC Depot Privatization Issue to be Discussed in Assembly

Mahabubnagar: The privatization of RTC depots under the pretext of introducing electric buses will be discussed in the Assembly on Tuesday, according to Jadcherla MLA Janampally Anirudh Reddy.

In a press release on Monday, Anirudh Reddy raised concerns about the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model, under which RTC is bringing in electric buses to reduce diesel use and promote environmental sustainability. He noted that while RTC is introducing these buses, private firms supplying them are also hiring drivers and mechanics, leaving only conductors on RTC’s payroll.

This situation has worried labor unions, as they fear that thousands of RTC drivers, mechanics, and supervisory staff could lose their jobs. The MLA also claimed that, according to media reports, some depots have already been handed over to private firms. In response, he has raised a question in the Assembly, which is expected to be discussed on Tuesday.

Additionally, Anirudh Reddy brought up the issue of pending subsidies under the T-Pride scheme. This scheme aims to help SC, ST youth and persons with disabilities buy vehicles. He accused the previous BRS government of failing to release the 45% subsidy for several years, causing financial hardships for beneficiaries.

His question on this matter was listed for discussion on Monday but was not taken up due to time constraints. However, he assured that the government would provide a written response regarding the pending payments. He stressed that thousands of Dalits and disabled individuals have been waiting for their subsidies since 2019, and the government’s response will clarify when the payments will be made.
