    Telangana Faces Intense Heatwave, Temperatures Soar

    Hyderabad: The heatwave in Telangana is becoming severe, with most parts of the state experiencing extreme temperatures. According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), 22 out of 33 districts have recorded temperatures above 40°C, making life difficult for residents.

    Asifabad recorded the highest temperature in the state, reaching a scorching 42.4°C. Other areas like Neradigonda in Adilabad, Mandamarri in Mancherial, and Veernapalle in Rajanna Sircilla reported temperatures of 41.5°C. Meanwhile, Chinnambavi in Wanaparthy and Bijinapally in Nagarkurnool recorded highs of 41.3°C and 41.2°C, respectively. Jagtial’s Gollapalle and Siddipet’s Bejjanki also saw temperatures touching 41°C. Additionally, 14 more districts recorded temperatures between 40°C and 41°C, showing the widespread impact of the heatwave.

    Hyderabad is also feeling the heat, with Asif Nagar and Keesara in Medchal Malkajgiri recording temperatures of 39.6°C. While these temperatures are slightly lower than in northern districts, they still indicate increasing heat stress in urban areas.

    Due to the rising temperatures, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow heatwave alert for several districts, including Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, and Peddapalli. This alert is in place for Sunday, 16 March, as high temperatures are expected to continue.

    The ongoing heatwave is a major concern, affecting public health, agriculture, and water supply. Officials have advised people to take precautions like drinking plenty of water, avoiding direct sun exposure during peak hours, and taking care of vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. With summer yet to reach its peak, Telangana remains on high alert for further temperature increases in the coming weeks.
