A special one-day workshop titled “Online Journalism – Women Journalists' Empowerment” was held on Sunday at the Telangana Media Academy in Nampally. The workshop aimed to help women journalists develop essential digital skills and understand the changing media industry.
Dr. Harish, the Special Commissioner for Information and Public Relations, attended as the guest of honor. He spoke about the need for equal opportunities for women in journalism. He mentioned that the Journalists’ Accreditation Study Committee, led by Telangana Media Academy Chairman K. Srinivas Reddy, has suggested ways to increase women’s participation in the field. He encouraged the journalists to take inspiration from Nobel laureate Marie Curie, who won awards in both Physics and Chemistry, and to work hard for success in their careers.
The workshop was chaired by K. Srinivas Reddy and included sessions by experienced professionals. Prof. Madhu Vishwanatham from ISB Data Science School spoke about social media strategies in online journalism. AI specialist Rakesh Dubbudu discussed how to find reliable news sources. Dr. Madhavi Ravi Kumar, a senior assistant professor at Hyderabad University, explained credibility and AI in journalism, while Dr. Shruti Mantri from ISB Data Science School spoke about fake news and misinformation.
Fifty women journalists from different parts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, attended the training. To support their learning, the Media Academy gave each participant 10 books and training certificates.
The event was also attended by Media Academy Secretary Nagulapalli Venkateswara Rao, Women Journalists’ Coordinator Rajeshwari, and other senior media professionals.
