Singareni Needs to Cut Costs to Stay Competitive: Chairman
Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) must reduce its coal production costs to stay competitive, said Chairman and Managing Director N. Balaram. He made this statement during the 38th constructive meeting with the Singareni Collieries Workers Union at Singareni Bhavan in Hyderabad on Friday.
Balaram explained that the company’s coal prices are higher than those of Coal India and imported coal. As a result, demand for Singareni coal is decreasing, which is a major concern. To address this issue, he urged employees to fully utilize their working hours and make the best use of machines. He also asked trade unions to understand the company’s financial situation and help raise awareness among workers.
Kothagudem MLA and Honorary President of the Singareni Collieries Workers Union, Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, emphasized the importance of workers in the company’s development. He said that worker welfare should be prioritized alongside production. Rao proposed introducing a housing scheme for workers, increasing wages for contract employees, and building a super specialty hospital for their benefit.
In response, Balaram agreed to the idea of setting up a super specialty hospital in Hyderabad. He also announced the formation of a committee to study the feasibility of the proposed housing scheme for workers.
