The Telangana Legislative Council (MLC) elections are approaching, and the Congress party is working hard to choose the right candidates. Meenakshi Natarajan, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Telangana, met with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at his residence on Wednesday. Their discussion focused on how to select candidates for the MLC elections, especially under the MLAs’ quota.

The meeting lasted for over an hour and was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. Since the election notification has already been issued, the leaders talked about how to balance political promises while selecting candidates. They also discussed how to manage coalition commitments.

Congress currently has enough strength to win three MLC seats and can support the AIMIM party for a fourth seat. However, there is an ongoing discussion about fulfilling a promise made to the Communist Party of India (CPI), which was an ally before the elections. The CPI wants one of the MLC seats as per the earlier agreement. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy explained this situation to Meenakshi Natarajan.

Ms. Natarajan emphasized the need for social balance in the nominations. She suggested that loyal Congress workers who have not yet received political opportunities should be considered for the seats. The party leadership is carefully evaluating these factors to ensure fair representation and maintain unity within the party.

Further discussions about the final candidate list may take place in New Delhi. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is expected to visit the party’s top leaders over the weekend. These elections are an important test for Congress in Telangana, as the party must manage both internal politics and alliance commitments while selecting its nominees.
