Hyderabad Metro to Expand Skywalks for Better Connectivity
Hyderabad Metro Rail is working on improving public transport by building more skywalks. These skywalks will connect metro stations to nearby commercial and residential areas, making travel easier for passengers.
At a recent meeting on mobility planning, Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director NVS Reddy and HMDA Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmed discussed these expansion plans. Currently, a skywalk is being built from Dr Ambedkar Balanagar Metro Station to the Phoenix/Landmark Mall.
Metro officials mentioned that L&T has already built skywalks at Panjagutta, Hitec City, and Erramanzil metro stations. These skywalks help passengers reach malls directly. Similarly, skywalks have been constructed between JBS and Parade Ground metro stations, allowing passengers to avoid crossing busy roads. Raheja has also built a modern skywalk from Rayadurg Metro Station to the Raheja Mind Space Complex, which houses many international companies.
Another important project is the circular skywalk at Uppal Metro Station, built by HMDA. This skywalk connects the station to all roads around Uppal Junction, helping both metro passengers and pedestrians.
NVS Reddy stated that more skywalks are being encouraged on a large scale. Apart from the one at Balanagar, the Vasavi Group is building a skywalk from LB Nagar Metro Station to the Vasavi Anandanilayam complex. This complex consists of 12 towers with 33 floors each, spread over 25 acres, and will house many families.
Additionally, discussions are ongoing with other companies to build skywalks from metro stations like Nagole, Stadium, Durgam Cheruvu, and Kukatpally. L&T Metro Managing Director KVB Reddy said that private companies interested in constructing such skywalks can contact L&T Metro Rail Station Retail Head K V Nagendra Prasad at 9900093820.
