Hyderabad’s public transportation is set to improve with the introduction of digital boards at bus stops. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) announced this new system, called the “Bus Information System,” on Monday. These digital boards will display real-time bus locations and accurate arrival times, making travel easier and more efficient for passengers.

Officials say this initiative will help passengers by keeping them informed about bus schedules and distances. Instead of waiting without updates, commuters will now know exactly when their bus will arrive.

To make this happen, the GHMC and the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) are considering installing GPS trackers in state-run buses. These GPS systems will be connected to the digital boards at bus stops, giving passengers real-time information about their buses.

The GHMC plans to install these digital boards through a public-private partnership. The project will be funded entirely by advertising revenue generated by the agency. Currently, GHMC has set up around 1,500 bus stops, while the RTC operates about 3,000 buses, transporting nearly 20 lakh people daily.

As part of the plan, GHMC is also working to upgrade bus stops across the city. The goal is to provide passengers with better information about bus locations and arrival times. The engineering department is leading this effort by designing modern bus shelters similar to those in London. These bus stops will not only offer protection from the weather but will also have digital screens displaying real-time updates on bus arrivals and routes.

A GHMC official stated that 248 new bus stops have already been installed across Hyderabad as part of this modernization project. These new stops are designed to be more comfortable and user-friendly, featuring seating, lighting, and clear signage to help passengers navigate the city’s public transport system more easily.
