Former Minister Jagadish Reddy Gets Emotional Over Water Crisis
Former minister and MLA Guntakandla Jagadish Reddy has urged the government to release irrigation water to save paddy crops. On Saturday, he visited dried-up fields in Gajula Malkapuram and Chinagarakunta Thandas of Penpahad Mandal, Suryapet district. Seeing the condition of the fields, he became emotional and even broke down in tears.
He blamed the Congress government for the drought in the Krishna and Godavari command areas. Farmers trusted the government and sowed their crops, but now they are facing heavy losses due to a lack of water.
Jagadish Reddy alleged that although 10,000 cusecs of water are available in the Godavari River, the government is diverting it for sand mining instead of supplying it to farmers. He claimed that if he was given control over the Kaleshwaram project, he could ensure water reached the last ayacut within three days.
He demanded immediate action from Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy to address the crisis. Due to the water shortage, farmers are being forced to sell their cattle to buy fodder and are relying on tankers to irrigate their fields. BRS leaders Nemmadhi Bhiksham, Dongari Yugender, and others accompanied him during the visit.
