Amberpet Flyover Finally Opens to the Public

After several delays, the much-awaited Amberpet Flyover in Hyderabad was finally opened to the public on Wednesday, coinciding with the auspicious day of Maha Shivaratri. This new flyover is expected to greatly reduce traffic congestion in the area. The four-lane flyover, which is 1.4 km long, connects Golnaka and Amberpet and was built at an estimated cost of ₹338 crore.

Interestingly, the flyover was opened for public use without any formal inauguration by government representatives. Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy inspected the flyover on Tuesday and, after discussions with officials, instructed them to allow vehicles onto the new structure. This decision provided immediate relief to daily commuters.

During his inspection, the minister criticized the state government for delays in acquiring land for the project, which led to setbacks in its completion. Although the foundation stone was laid in 2018 by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, construction did not begin until 2021 due to several technical issues, including challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Amberpet Flyover connects key locations such as Shalem Church, Golnaka, and Mukaram Hotel. It is designed to improve traffic flow and shorten travel time for commuters traveling to Hyderabad via the Warangal Highway. The flyover was initially planned for completion in 2023 but became operational only in early 2024.

After years of traffic congestion in the area, motorists are now experiencing a hassle-free drive on the newly opened flyover. According to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the project required the acquisition of 277 properties, with six cases still pending in court. These land-related issues contributed to the delays in completing the flyover.

With its opening, the flyover is expected to significantly ease traffic bottlenecks and provide a smoother driving experience for thousands of commuters who use this route daily.
