Temples in Gadwal Decorated for Maha Shivaratri Celebrations
Temples across Gadwal district have been beautifully decorated in preparation for Maha Shivaratri. The famous Jogulamba Bala Brahmeshwara Swamy Temple in Alampur, along with many other Shiva temples, have been adorned with lights and flowers to create a divine atmosphere for the grand festival.
The celebrations will begin early in the morning with special abhishekams (ritualistic bathing of the deity). Devotees will perform sacred rituals such as Panchamrita Abhishekam (offering a mixture of milk, curd, honey, ghee, and sugar), Bhasma Abhishekam (applying holy ash), Rudrabhishekam (chanting sacred mantras while pouring water), and Annabhishekam (offering rice to the deity).
Throughout the night, devotees will observe fasting and stay awake in prayer, chanting Lord Shiva’s name continuously. The most significant moment of Maha Shivaratri, known as Lingodbhava, takes place at midnight. This is believed to be the time when Lord Shiva manifested in his divine form. To mark this occasion, special Shiva Kalyanam (the celestial wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati) will be performed in many temples, bringing blessings of peace and prosperity to the devotees.
The next morning, devotees will offer Naivedyam (special food offerings) to Lord Shiva before breaking their fast by consuming Prasadam (holy food). This marks the completion of their spiritual observance.
Several temples have also arranged devotional storytelling (Harikatha), cultural programs, and spiritual discourses to educate devotees about the significance of Maha Shivaratri. With people visiting temples, observing fasts, and praying throughout the night, the district is set to experience a deeply spiritual and festive atmosphere while continuing the rich traditions of Maha Shivaratri.
