Begumpet Railway Station Undergoes Major Transformation
Hyderabad: The Begumpet Railway Station is undergoing a significant makeover as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. This renovation is expected to be completed by next month. The station is an important stop for trains coming from Mumbai and Pune, with around 122 trains passing through daily. Currently, it serves approximately 16,648 passengers per day, and after the upgrade, it will be able to handle even more travelers.
According to South Central Railway, the redevelopment aims to improve passenger convenience. Some of the key upgrades include separating arrival and departure movements, enhancing road connectivity for easier access, and providing sufficient parking space. Previously, the station had only two platforms without any escalators or lifts, making it difficult for passengers to move around.
As part of the renovation, two lifts and two escalators have been installed. A new waiting area of 750 square meters has been built, and 288 square meters of the old station building has been refurbished. Additionally, a new ticket booking window is being set up. The total cost of the project is Rs 26.55 crore.
A senior officer of South Central Railway stated that the renovation work began last year and is being carried out in phases to avoid inconvenience to passengers. So far, 75 percent of the work has been completed, including the entry ramp, a 12-meter foot overbridge, and the installation of lifts and escalators. The final stages of the project include finishing touches to the station building, improving the circulating area, upgrading the approach road, and resurfacing the platform.
The transformation of Begumpet Railway Station is expected to make travel more comfortable and efficient for passengers once it is fully completed.
