Hyderabad: Telangana’s Irrigation & Civil Supplies Minister, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, has strongly criticized the previous BRS government for mismanaging the irrigation sector. He claimed that despite spending a massive ₹1.81 lakh crore, the BRS government failed to complete important projects. As a result, 103 tmcft of water storage capacity in Nalgonda and Mahbubnagar districts remains unused.

The minister accused the BRS regime of looting public money under the pretext of irrigation projects. He stated that while the previous government made big promises, they left behind incomplete reservoirs and lift irrigation schemes. This, he said, deprived Telangana of its fair share of Krishna Basin water, ultimately harming farmers.

Uttam Kumar Reddy further pointed out that Telangana was losing its share of Krishna water because the BRS government did not finish key projects. He explained that although Telangana could access water from the Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar reservoirs, it could not store enough due to unfinished irrigation infrastructure.

He criticized the KCR-led government for making grand announcements without proper execution. According to him, if the BRS government had been serious about irrigation, Telangana’s farmers would not be facing water shortages today.

The minister questioned how ₹1.81 lakh crore was spent, yet reservoirs remained incomplete and farmers continued to struggle. He blamed the previous government’s inefficiency and corruption for the ongoing irrigation crisis.

Uttam Kumar Reddy assured the public that the Congress government would take quick action to complete the pending projects. He promised to fix the damage caused by the BRS government’s mismanagement and ensure that Telangana fully utilizes its rightful share of Krishna Basin water.
