Revanth Reddy Compares Politics to a T20 Match, Defends Caste Census

Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday made an interesting comparison between politics and a T20 cricket match. He pointed out that political discussions, which once involved meaningful debates and satire, have now turned into a contest of verbal attacks and abuse.

Admitting his involvement in this trend, Revanth Reddy stated that while he does not prefer such an approach, he has no choice but to engage in it. He acknowledged that the political atmosphere has changed, forcing leaders to adapt to the situation.

In a statement that caught attention, the Chief Minister said he did not mind being the last Reddy Chief Minister of Telangana. Responding to criticism from the BRS and BJP over the caste census, he clarified that his decision to conduct the survey was based on a promise made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He also mentioned that if needed, he was willing to serve as an ordinary leader.

Revanth Reddy stressed the importance of conducting the caste census, warning that delaying it would harm the Backward Classes (BCs) in multiple ways. He accused both Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP and the BRS of trying to block the census but assured that he would go ahead with it despite any challenges.

Explaining Modi’s opposition to the caste census, Revanth Reddy alleged that the Prime Minister was not originally a BC but was added to the BC list only after becoming the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He announced that the Congress would soon come up with an action plan to challenge Modi on the caste survey issue.

During a PowerPoint presentation on the caste survey and Scheduled Caste (SC) categorisation, Revanth Reddy challenged Modi to prove his sincerity by ordering a caste survey along with the national census. He argued that if Modi were truly a BC, he should have no problem with the survey.

The Chief Minister also criticised BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao and leaders KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao for not participating in the caste survey. He proposed a resolution calling for a social boycott of KCR and his family for their non-participation, which was accepted by the party members through a show of hands.

Additionally, Revanth Reddy criticised the Comprehensive Family Survey conducted by the previous BRS government in a single day, calling it flawed. He stated that the new report provided more accurate data, showing that BCs make up 56.33% of Telangana’s population. Reaffirming his commitment to SC categorisation, he announced that the government would introduce a law to ensure justice for the sub-castes within the Scheduled Caste community.
