Illegal Sand Mining Continues in Koilkonda Despite Complaints

Mahabubnagar: Illegal sand mining remains a major issue in Koilkonda mandal, despite multiple complaints from local activists. Authorities have failed to take action against those transporting and dumping sand illegally.

Diddi Praveen Kumar, president of the voluntary organization “Nenu Saitam,” has strongly criticized the inaction of local officials. He has demanded immediate action against the Koilkonda Tahsildar and Sub-Inspector (SI) for their negligence.

At a press conference on Monday, Praveen Kumar revealed that sand is being illegally extracted from streams in Lingalchedu, Suraram, Venkatapur, and Kottur without proper permits. Even after several complaints, local officials have not taken any steps to stop the illegal activity, raising concerns about their involvement with the sand mafia.

He also pointed out that despite written complaints and social media reports, authorities have ignored the issue. In December, “Nenu Saitam” reported illegal sand transport in Lingalchedu. However, action was taken only after the Mining Department and Special Task Force conducted inspections, proving that officials act only when pressured.

On February 7, the organization filed another complaint about illegal sand dumping near Suraram Bridge. Following this, district officials seized the sand. However, within two days, 150 to 200 Bharat Benz trucks dumped more sand illegally near Kottur in Koilkonda mandal.

Praveen Kumar expressed deep concern over the continuation of illegal sand mining despite repeated complaints. He accused officials of working with the sand mafia and accepting bribes to allow this illegal activity. He warned that if authorities fail to take action, “Nenu Saitam” will be forced to approach the court for justice.

He further criticized the Koilkonda Tahsildar and SI for never taking independent action against the sand mafia. Even after filing a complaint with District Collector Vijayendra Boyi, illegal sand transport continues without restriction.

Praveen Kumar urged Mahabubnagar District Collector Vijayendra Boyi and SP Janaki to take strict action against negligent officials and put an end to illegal sand mining in the region.
