Hyderabad: Telangana is preparing for local body elections as...

The All-India Congress Committee (AICC) has approved changes in the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) executive. This move raises hopes of resolving internal conflicts within the party. The key question now is whether party members will unite and work together for success in the upcoming MLC and local body elections. Before finalizing the decision, the AICC held detailed discussions with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, TPCC president Mahesh Goud, and other senior leaders. They were asked to submit a final list of names for the new executive.

Sources reveal that the new TPCC executive will have four working presidents, each representing different communities—Muslim minorities, Reddys, Scheduled Castes (SC), and Scheduled Tribes (ST). This decision aims to ensure social justice within the party structure. Additionally, the executive will include 10 to 20 vice presidents and around a dozen general secretaries, making it a large team.

To strengthen the party before the local body elections, pending nominated positions will also be filled. Party insiders say that the Congress high command and state leadership have been actively discussing election strategies. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has assured the AICC that the Congress is well-prepared to showcase its strength in the upcoming polls. Senior AICC leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and K C Venugopal have reviewed the preparations for the MLC elections. Their goal is to retain the Graduate Constituency seat and win both MLC seats under the Teachers’ quota.

The AICC leaders have also urged TPCC leaders to secure a majority in the local bodies. However, they warned them to stay alert, as opposition parties like the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are making a comeback in some areas. Revanth Reddy updated the AICC leadership about recent meetings with MLAs and MLCs, where strategies were discussed for the elections. With a newly structured TPCC and a clear plan in place, the Congress hopes to strengthen its position in Telangana’s political scene.
