    Hyderabad: The uro-oncology wing of Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (BIACH&RI) recently held a special workshop to demonstrate the use of advanced robotic surgical systems in uro-oncology procedures.

    Over two days, a team of surgeons, including Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Dr. Srivatsa Narasimha, Dr. Ashwin Giridhar, and Dr. Amiresh Mohan, performed several complex robotic surgeries. These included robotic radical prostatectomy, robotic partial nephrectomy, robotic radical cystectomy with intracorporeal ileal conduit, robotic adrenalectomy, and robotic radical nephrectomy.

    The workshop was formally inaugurated by Nandamuri Balakrishna, Chairman of BIACH&RI, during a special program. He highlighted that the hospital introduced its first robotic surgical system in 2017 and has since performed over 800 surgeries using this technology, setting a remarkable record. On January 31, 2025, the hospital launched its fourth-generation robotic surgical system, which offers advanced procedures at an affordable cost.

    Balakrishna further emphasized the hospital’s commitment to bringing the latest medical technologies to its patients. He also stressed the importance of conducting workshops and Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs to share knowledge and expertise, benefiting the broader medical community.

    The event was attended by several prominent figures, including BIACH&RI Trust Board Member Dr. Raghava Rao Polavarapu, CEO Dr. K. Krishniah, Medical Director Dr. T.S. Rao, Associate Director of Academics Dr. Kalpana Raghunath, Medical Superintendent Dr. Phani Koteswara Rao, and Head of the Uro-Oncology Wing Dr. Rakesh Sharma. Many doctors from the two Telugu states and hospital staff also participated.
