    Telangana's Education Report Highlights for 2024

    Telangana recorded an average school enrollment rate of 73.5% in 2024, slightly lower than the 75.5% reported earlier. These figures come from ASER’s Annual Status of Education Report (Rural) 2024.

    Increased Enrollment in Pre-Primary Education

    The enrollment of three-year-olds in pre-primary institutions has steadily risen. It grew from 68.1% in 2018 to 75.8% in 2022 and further to 77.4% in 2024. States like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Telangana achieved near-universal enrollment for this age group. However, Meghalaya and Uttar Pradesh reported over 50% of three-year-olds not being enrolled anywhere.

    Improvements in Reading Levels

    Reading levels for children in Standard VIII at government schools showed some progress. After a dip from 69% in 2018 to 66.2% in 2022, the rate improved to 67.5% in 2024. However, private school students’ performance remained unchanged between 2022 and 2024. Performance varied across states, with improvements in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Sikkim. Conversely, declines were observed in Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.

    Teacher Presence and Physical Education

    The report revealed that 85.5% of teachers were present in Telangana’s schools in both 2022 and 2024. A significant improvement was seen in physical education, with 77.7% of schools allocating weekly time for it in 2024, compared to just 45.9% in 2022.

    Better Facilities in Schools

    The availability of sports equipment in Telangana schools jumped from 48.6% in 2022 to 82.3% in 2024. Similarly, drinking water was available in 53.2% of schools, while usable toilets were found in 75.7%. Usable toilets specifically for girls were available in 73.7% of schools.

    Telangana continues to make strides in education, but challenges remain, especially in certain areas like school infrastructure and reading proficiency.
