Telangana CM Forms Committee to Improve Sand Supply Policy for Housing Scheme

The committee includes several key officials: Special Chief Secretary of Finance Ramakrishna Rao, Principal Secretary of Mines N. Sridhar, Commissioner of Flagship Programs Shashanka, and Managing Director of TSMDC, Sushil Kumar.

The Chief Minister held a review meeting at the Secretariat with senior officials from various departments. Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, CM’s advisor Vem Narender Reddy, and Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari also participated. During the meeting, CM Reddy stressed the need for a sand supply policy that is both efficient and helpful to beneficiaries, especially since a large number of Indiramma houses are planned across the state.

He raised concerns about inefficiencies in the current sand management system. The Chief Minister pointed out that while construction activities are growing every year, government revenues from sand are not satisfactory. At the same time, consumers are paying high prices for sand. He directed officials to ensure sand is affordable for the public while also increasing government income.

CM Reddy also emphasized the need to crack down on the sand mafia. He instructed officials to enforce strict measures to stop illegal sand activities. Additionally, he questioned the fines collected from major and minor mineral mines. He called for a detailed study of the rules governing these minerals, with findings to be submitted in a report within two weeks.

This initiative aims to make the sand supply system more transparent, efficient, and affordable. It is expected to help with the smooth construction of Indiramma houses and address long-standing problems in the sector.
