Hyderabad Welcomes Unique Cat Therapy Centre

Hyderabad has embraced the growing global trend of pet therapy with the opening of its first-ever cat therapy centre. While the concept of ‘cat therapy’ has gained popularity in countries like Japan and Indonesia, it has now found its way to the bustling city of Hyderabad.

For those looking to unwind from the stress of daily life, this unique facility provides a chance to relax in the company of friendly Persian cats. Located in Shaikpet, near the IT Hub, the centre, called “Cats Country,” is a one-of-a-kind destination in India. Supported by veterinary experts, the space offers a calming environment for cat lovers.

At “Cats Country,” visitors are greeted by nearly 50 Persian cats, all part of the same family. These cats are not only friendly with each other but also enjoy interacting with humans. The interiors of the centre are specially designed to suit the cats’ playful nature, with plenty of areas for them to jump, climb, and explore. According to the founder, Majid Shareef, the cats are vaccinated, registered with GHMC, and regularly checked by veterinarians. Majid set up the centre after conducting extensive research and visiting similar facilities in Southeast Asia.

Given its location near the historic Seven Tombs, a popular tourist spot, Majid is seeking support from the Tourism Department to promote the centre to both domestic and international visitors. Since this is the first initiative of its kind in India, the tourism officials have shown interest in helping. Majid is also in talks with Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao to align this innovative project with the government’s focus on tourism as a key growth sector.

The therapy centre is housed in a spacious 3-BHK flat, easily accessible on the main road connecting Shaikpet and Seven Tombs. In addition to cat therapy, “Cats Country” offers pet boarding services. Cat owners can leave their furry friends in air-conditioned rooms with live CCTV access, allowing them to check on their pets remotely.

The facility also caters to families and pet owners who want to celebrate special occasions like birthday parties. “Some people want to celebrate their pets’ birthdays with other animals. We welcome such celebrations, allowing families to bring their own pets and share joyful moments with our cats,” said Majid.
