Khammam: Strict Action Against Cockfights Announced
The Commissioner of Police, Sunil Dutt, has issued a warning that strict action will be taken if cockfights are organized anywhere in the district. With the Sankranthi festival approaching, he held a teleconference with police officers on Friday to discuss measures to prevent such activities.
During the meeting, the Commissioner instructed police officers to form special teams at the division, mandal, and village levels. These teams will work to stop cockfights and ensure that the law is upheld during the festive period.
The Commissioner also emphasized that cases will be registered against people who allow cockfights or gambling on their properties, such as farms, lands, and guest houses. He urged officers to raid betting and gambling centers and take strict action. Additionally, individuals likely to organize illegal activities should be identified and bound over.
In a related issue, the Commissioner directed officers to take firm action against the stocking or sale of Chinese manja, a synthetic thread harmful to birds, animals, and humans. All Station House Officers (SHOs) were instructed to address this matter seriously and prevent its use during the festival.
