Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy stated that agreements with the Adani Group regarding defence manufacturing units cannot be canceled unilaterally. He explained that private investments in the defence sector are a result of the central government’s policy shift towards liberalization and an open economy. He emphasized that state governments have limited control over such matters under the current framework.
Speaking at the launch of a book titled “Nuts, Bolts of War & Peace”, authored by former MLC K Yadava Reddy, the Chief Minister highlighted that not just the Adani Group, but several other companies are also investing in defence manufacturing. Addressing suggestions to cancel agreements with the Adani Group, he clarified that these contracts were established by the previous government. He added that canceling such agreements unilaterally is not feasible. “This is not just about Adani; other companies are also involved in similar investments. A comprehensive policy decision is needed, and the State government will take necessary steps to address this,” he said.
The Chief Minister also expressed concern about internal conflicts in the country. Referring to the situation in Manipur, he described it as a “civil war-like” scenario, where modern weapons have found their way into civilian hands, worsening the crisis. He lamented the lack of meaningful debate on serious national issues like the Manipur conflict and the Chinese occupation of Indian territory.
“China has occupied over 2,000 square kilometers of our territory, but this issue is not being discussed openly. In Manipur, clashes between two tribes have escalated into a near-civil war, with civilians now possessing dangerous weapons like AK-47s. How did such advanced arms end up in the hands of insurgents?” the Chief Minister asked, raising concerns over the growing unrest and security challenges in the region.
