Tractor Overturns During Illegal Sand Mining in Mahabubnagar
A tractor involved in illegal sand mining overturned near Nagaram village in Devarakadra mandal on Friday morning, highlighting ongoing defiance of strict orders against sand smuggling in Mahabubnagar. District Collector Vijayendra Boyi had only recently instructed officials, including Tahsildars and police, to crack down on such activities.
The incident occurred while the tractor was transporting sand from Pedda Rajamur Vagu through Nagaram village. The driver, reportedly a minor, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and spill sand across the road. This led to traffic disruptions and caused inconvenience to school students and other commuters.
Social activist and Nenu Saitham organization president, Diddi Praveen Kumar, disclosed that the sand mafia acted quickly to cover up the mishap. They used a JCB machine to clear the spilled sand and remove the overturned tractor from the scene in an apparent attempt to erase evidence.
Praveen Kumar expressed frustration over the lack of action against the sand mafia despite clear orders from the Collector. He criticized the local revenue and police officials, alleging that no cases have been registered, no vehicles seized, and no steps taken to stop minors from driving tractors. He accused officials in Devarakadra of colluding with the sand mafia, allowing illegal activities to continue unchecked.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Nenu Saitham office, Praveen Kumar called on the District Collector to take immediate action against the Devarakadra Tahsildar and Sub-Inspector. He stressed the need for strict enforcement of the law to prevent further incidents and hold those responsible accountable.
The activist emphasized that stronger measures are necessary to curb illegal sand mining, which continues to pose risks to public safety and disrupt daily life in the region.
