Unknown attackers targeted a parked vehicle near the toilets opposite the Polytechnic College in Pebberu, Wanaparthy district, using knives and stones to carry out a robbery. The assailants managed to steal 14 tolas of gold from the passengers inside the vehicle, as well as bags placed on top of it.
The victims, eight people from three families, were residents of Kujan Kothuru village in Ibrahimpatnam mandal of Jagtial district. They were returning from pilgrimages to Tirupati and Arunachalam. Exhausted from their journey, they had parked their car in the heavy vehicle parking area in Pebberu to rest for the night.
Around 3:30 am, the attackers struck suddenly, smashing the vehicle with stones and threatening the passengers with knives. When the men inside the van tried to resist, the assailants retaliated by pelting them with stones. Three of the passengers sustained serious injuries, while the women in the group suffered minor injuries, including bite marks on their necks.
After the robbery, the victims immediately called the police helpline at 100. The authorities responded quickly, and the injured were taken to Wanaparthy District Hospital using an ambulance. From there, they were transferred to Mahabubnagar for further treatment.
