Hyderabad: K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), the Chairperson of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has strongly criticized the state government for its harsh treatment of farmers involved in the Laghacherla protest. He accused the government of using extreme measures against both the farmers and their families. His remarks come a month after the protests, which had gained widespread attention.

Speaking to the media, KTR condemned the government’s actions, comparing its behavior to that of “kings and emperors” rather than addressing the genuine concerns of the farmers. “The farmers of Laghacherla raised their voices a month ago and ensured their grievances were heard,” he said. KTR also dismissed claims that protestors had been violent towards officials, quoting the district collector, who confirmed that no such incidents took place.

KTR highlighted that the government not only arrested the protesting farmers but also detained Patnam Narender Reddy, a political leader who supported them. “The farmers were subjected to third-degree methods, and for the past month, around 40 farmers have been kept in jail,” he stated.

He expressed serious concern about the health of the imprisoned farmers, revealing that one of them experienced chest pains while in custody. “The government is trying to hide this information, and even the farmer’s family was not informed about his condition,” KTR said.

The BRS leader also criticized the government for its inhumane treatment of the ailing farmer. “It is cruel to handcuff a sick individual and transport them to a hospital,” he added, condemning the government’s actions.
