City-Based Students Head to Smart India Hackathon 2024 Finale with Innovative Idea
Rangareddy: A group of IT students from Sridevi Women’s Engineering College (SWEC) in Gandipet has made it to the grand finale of the prestigious Smart India Hackathon-2024. Their innovative idea, a “Smart Irrigation and Rainwater Harvesting System,” has brought them this significant opportunity. The hackathon began on Wednesday in Karnataka and will run until December 15 at KLE Technological University (KLE Tech), Hubballi.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC), the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the Inter Institutional Inclusive Innovations Centre (i4C), is a national-level competition aimed at fostering innovation and problem-solving skills among students. The SWEC team’s project falls under the theme of “Smart Automation.”
The team of six talented students—K Akansha, Pravalika M, M Shanmukha Priya, S Poojitha, K Renuka, and G Srija—will present their prototype model during the finale. Their project involves designing, coding, and assembling hardware and software related to IoT (Internet of Things) for smart detection. The system aims to optimize water usage in agriculture and enhance rainwater harvesting efficiency.
The selection of the SWEC team is a significant achievement, as their idea was chosen from thousands of submissions from across the country. This milestone has added a feather in the cap of the college, showcasing the technical brilliance of its students.
The project was developed under the guidance of mentors R Sreedhar and T Prathiba, with supervision from Dr B Narendra Kumar, the Head of the IT Department. The dedication and teamwork of these mentors and students have been instrumental in shaping the innovative concept.
The college management, including Vice-Chairman Dr K Radhakishan Rao, Society Member Dr K Manjeera, and Principal Dr A Narmada, expressed their pride and congratulated the team on this exceptional accomplishment.
“We are proud of the team’s achievement. This milestone reflects their inner geek, perseverance, and commitment to achieving excellence. We wish them all the best in the final stage,” said an elated Dr Radhakishan Rao.
