    Differently-Abled Individuals Encouraged to Utilize Government Welfare Schemes

    Gadwal: District Collector B.M. Santosh urged differently-abled individuals to make full use of government welfare schemes to achieve their goals and reach new heights in life. Speaking as the chief guest at the International Day of Persons with Disabilities event, held at the Indoor Stadium, he emphasized that physical disabilities should not hinder success. The event was organized by the Department of Women, Child, and Disabled Welfare in collaboration with the Rural Development Department. District SP Srinivasa Rao also attended as a special guest.

    The Collector shared motivational examples of differently-abled individuals who have overcome challenges to achieve remarkable milestones. He encouraged others to draw inspiration from these success stories and take advantage of government provisions like the 2% reservation in recruitment and pensions for differently-abled individuals. He announced plans to conduct awareness seminars at the mandal level to inform people about welfare schemes.

    During his speech, the Collector highlighted the enforcement of the 2016 Act, Section 92, which penalizes offenses such as insulting or discriminating against differently-abled individuals. Penalties range from six months to five years of imprisonment. He also mentioned measures like installing ramps at polling stations and providing Braille facilities for visually impaired voters during elections.

    The Collector noted that ramps are available in most government offices and said a list of offices without such facilities is being prepared. Efforts are underway to equip these offices with ramps and wheelchairs. He praised the achievements of differently-abled individuals, including one who climbed Mount Everest, and encouraged everyone to aim high and succeed with mental strength and determination.

    District SP Srinivasa Rao highlighted India’s achievement of winning 29 medals in the Paralympics, ranking 18th globally. He motivated differently-abled individuals to excel on international platforms and assured them that the police department would provide necessary support and facilities. He also promised strict action against those who disrespect or harm their dignity.

    As part of the event, winners of various competitions were honored. Veeresh, Archana, and Madhav, who secured first prizes in state-level chess competitions, were felicitated. Additionally, 26 differently-abled individuals who excelled in district-level sports were awarded prizes and certificates. Certificates of appreciation were also given to differently-abled workers under the employment guarantee scheme.

    The program was attended by Additional Collector Narsinga Rao, ZP CEO Kanthamma, DWO Sudha Rani, DCPO Narasimha, Differently Abled Association President Chanti Babu, CDPOs, and several others. The event celebrated the achievements of differently-abled individuals and reinforced the importance of inclusivity and equal opportunities.
