Hyderabad to Transform with Ambitious 2050 Vision
Hyderabad city is gearing up for a major transformation under the 2050 Master Plan, which aims to make it a hub for development. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has prioritized the growth of Greater Hyderabad, initiating projects worth ₹1 lakh crore during his first year in office.
Focus on Infrastructure Development
To tackle traffic congestion, the government is expanding elevated corridors, metro rail networks, roads, and other transport facilities. A key initiative includes the construction of an elevated corridor on Rajiv Road near Alwal in Secunderabad at a cost of ₹2,232 crore. Additionally, a double-decker elevated corridor is being built on the Hyderabad-Nagpur National Highway, costing ₹1,580 crore, to ease traffic flow in the city.
Resolving Land Issues
The CM has worked with the central government to address long-standing land acquisition issues, particularly defense lands that were delaying projects like the elevated corridors and Mehdipatnam Skywalk. These issues, pending for over a decade, were resolved within three months of the new government taking office.
Reviving the Musi River
Efforts are underway to rejuvenate the polluted Musi River. Plans include reviving the Himayat Sagar and Usman Sagar reservoirs and setting up 39 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) to treat wastewater entering the river. Furthermore, a multi-purpose project will divert an additional 20 TMC of Godavari water from Yellampally to Hyderabad for drinking purposes and to ensure clean water flows into the Musi River.
Cultural and Recreational Projects
The government plans to transform Bapu Ghat into a unique wonderland with an international-level Gandhi Ideology Centre. A four-lane bridge near Mir Alam Lake is also under construction with an estimated cost of ₹360 crore.
Expansion of Metro Rail
The Cabinet has approved the second phase of the Metro Rail project, estimated at ₹24,237 crore. Phase 2 will extend the metro by 76.4 km, covering areas like the Old City and the airport. Key expansions include routes from Nagole to Shamshabad, Rayadurg to Kokapet, MGBS to Chandrayangutta, Miyapur to Patancheru, and LB Nagar to Hayatnagar.
Road and Flood Infrastructure
Under the Hyderabad City Innovation and Transformative Infrastructure (HCITI) project, roads within GHMC limits will be upgraded at a cost of ₹8,996 crore. Additionally, ₹596.2 crore has been allocated for constructing floodwater canals to address water stagnation and traffic issues during the rainy season.
Emerging as a Future City
The State government is planning a “future city” on 30,000 acres in Hyderabad. The Young India Skills University has already been initiated, and a Sports University is in the pipeline. Along with the Pharma City, the city is being positioned as a hub for artificial intelligence (AI), software, life sciences, and healthcare technology industries.
With these ambitious projects, Hyderabad is on its way to becoming a model city for development, blending modern infrastructure with sustainable solutions.
