Hyderabad Saree Festival 2024 Begins in Ameerpet
The Hyderabad Saree Festival 2024, a colorful event celebrating India’s handloom heritage, was inaugurated on Sunday at Kamma Sangham in Ameerpet. The festival, organized by the National Design Centre (NDC) in collaboration with the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) under the Ministry of Textiles, will run until November 30. It features a stunning collection of handloom sarees from across the country.
Padma Shri awardee Gajam Anjaiah, a well-known handloom expert and recipient of the prestigious Sant Kabir Award, officially opened the festival. During his speech, he emphasized the importance of preserving India’s handloom traditions. “Each saree tells a story of centuries-old traditions, artistry, and craftsmanship. Events like this are essential for protecting our heritage and giving recognition to the weaving community,” he said.
Rashmi Thakur, the Brand Ambassador for National Handloom, attended the event as the guest of honor. She praised the festival for promoting sustainable fashion and supporting weavers. “The Hyderabad Saree Festival is more than just an exhibition. It’s a celebration of India’s rich handloom legacy. It provides a platform for weavers to showcase their talent and allows buyers to connect directly with them,” she explained.
The festival offers visitors a chance to explore and purchase exquisite handloom sarees while supporting the hardworking artisans behind these creations. It is not only a showcase of craftsmanship but also a step toward preserving India’s cultural identity and empowering its weaving communities.
