Telangana Rejects ₹100 Crore Grant from Adani Foundation for Skills University
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has declared that the state government will not accept a ₹100 crore grant from the Adani Foundation for the Young India Skills University. This decision comes amidst controversies and allegations surrounding the Adani Group, both within India and internationally.
At a press conference, the Chief Minister, joined by ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, advisor Vem Narender Reddy, and MLA Mandula Samuel, explained the reasoning behind the decision. He stated that Telangana aims to keep its developmental efforts free from controversies and does not want to involve itself in any disputes linked to the Adani Group.
To formalize this decision, Telangana’s Special Chief Secretary for Industries has already informed the Adani Foundation that the grant will not be accepted. A letter was sent on November 24, emphasizing the state’s commitment to transparency and its intention to avoid contentious partnerships.
No Funds Received Yet
Addressing concerns about funding for the Skills University, the Chief Minister clarified that no funds have been transferred to the state treasury yet, despite several organizations pledging contributions under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). He explained that recent approvals for tax exemptions under Section 80G have delayed the disbursal of funds.
Political Allegations Denied
Revanth Reddy criticized attempts to politicize the state’s decision, stating that such disputes hinder the aspirations of unemployed youth. He assured that the government adheres to constitutional and legal norms. The Chief Minister emphasized that all companies, including Adani, Ambani, Tata, and Birla, are welcome to invest in Telangana as long as they follow established rules and regulations.
Focus on Development Projects
In addition to this announcement, the Chief Minister addressed key issues with the Central Government. He revealed plans to meet Telangana MPs in Delhi on Tuesday to discuss important projects, such as airport and metro expansions and irrigation water allocations. Revanth Reddy stressed Telangana’s commitment to pushing for timely action on these long-pending demands.
This decision reflects the state government’s focus on maintaining transparency and prioritizing the well-being of its citizens over potential controversies.
