The suspects were identified as Shaheen Begum (28) from Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, along with Abdulla alias Venkatesh (35) and Reshma alias Renuka (30). The latter two are residents of Indra Nagar, First Lancer, Pochamma Basthi, and are also from Anantapur originally.

According to the police, Abdulla and Reshma, a married couple with three daughters, feared their fourth child—Reshma being eight months pregnant—might also be a girl. This fear led them to hatch a plan to kidnap a male child. The trio traveled to Hyderabad with the intention of abducting a baby boy from Niloufer Children’s Hospital.

On November 23, Shaheen and Abdulla visited the hospital, while Reshma waited nearby. Shaheen identified a woman with a baby boy leaving the hospital, distracted her, and kidnapped the infant. They then fled the scene in an auto-rickshaw.

The infant’s mother, Haseena Begum, reported the incident, prompting the police to register a case under Section 363 of the Indian Penal Code. The Nampally police formed five special teams and began analyzing CCTV footage. They tracked the suspects’ movements to Masab Tank and identified the vehicle used in the crime. It was observed that the suspects were heading towards Kurnool on the NH 44 highway.

The police coordinated efforts with the DCP Central Zone and SP Gadwal, who alerted local law enforcement along the highway. The suspects were intercepted at Pullur Toll Plaza. The kidnapped baby boy was found in their vehicle, and the accused were apprehended.

The three suspects are now in judicial custody, and the infant has been safely reunited with his family.
