    Telangana Fisheries Department Wins National Award

    The Telangana Fisheries Department has been honored with the National Award for Best Inland Fisheries for the year 2024. This prestigious recognition was given in appreciation of the department’s innovative initiatives and development-focused efforts throughout the year, according to a press release issued on Friday.

    Telangana has become a leader in the fisheries sector in India. The state is home to 5,901 fisheries cooperative societies, which include a total of 4,13,120 members. Since December 2023, 225 new societies have been formed, adding 8,069 new members to the cooperative network.

    The department has also taken significant steps to support fishers. Under the Group Accidental Insurance Scheme, a premium of Rs 139.77 lakh was paid to provide insurance coverage for the lives of 4.16 lakh fishers. This initiative has set an important example for others to follow.

    Moreover, new fish ponds were approved for construction in the state. These ponds will cover an area of 195.94 hectares at a project cost of Rs 2,145.44 lakh, further boosting the fisheries sector in Telangana.

    This award highlights Telangana’s commitment to the growth and development of inland fisheries while improving the livelihoods of those involved in the sector.
